The Audience

Days like drafting pages of a book prewritten
Each chapter loosely based on those preceding
Countless stories plagiarized out of meaning
Yellowed soiled paper, footnotes disappearing..

What is there left to author on blank canvas?
What are sounds unuttered, colours missing?
When even questions such as these have been repeated
Could we’ve dreamt up the sky before we’d seen it?

Or is this all besides the point the playwright’s making?
What if this play has starred its audience from the beginning?
Marks predefined, all seats assigned, applause sign blinking..

Whatever the reason behind it,
it’s truly an honour to have been invited.
